At its core, legalism is the belief or doctrines that there are standards, rituals, and performances one must do in order to be accepted by God i.e., Saved. As noted in my previous article, “Forcing the Bible to say what it does not say”, I noted the comments of a person who said, “Grace is only applied (Ephesians 2:8) to an individual after they have performed the ritual seen in Acts 2:38.”
Have you ever been told ‘You must Speak in Tongues in order to be saved’? Have you had the same Scriptures shot-gunned at you about the topic, like John 3:8 where Jesus told Nicodemus, “Everyone that is born of the spirit will speak in tongues!” Only problem – that isn’t what Jesus told Nicodemus…
Does a Pastor have Apostolic Authority? Does he have the right to demand your obedience to his commands, or is the role of a pastor to command obedience to Christ? The real test is this: Is your loyalty to Christ alone, or are you Loyal to Christ through your Pastor?

Spiritual Abuse is one of those labels that can be overused, much like the word cult. In the times following Jesus’ crucifixion and the birth of the Christian Church, Judaism and the Roman occupiers of Jerusalem labeled the Christian movement a cult. However, it is also something that needs to […]
Since leaving a cult, I have delved into studying, writing, reading, talking and coping with the very real, sometimes hidden, but obvious affects cults and their teachings have on lives. Most certainly the very word ‘cult’ conjures up the worst horrors to hit the news headlines, like Jamestown, or Waco, […]
There is a lot of debate, and concern when it comes to biblical authority, headship, and leadership. The three terms are of course not synonymous, but coming from a very legalistic background like I am, these terms were morphed into one synonym; Pastor. Modern Christianity that bends towards authoritarian leadership […]
I am ever amazed at the litany of ideas men will conjure up in God’s stead, ideas of what God requires and what God hates, things not found in His Word, His Handbook, nor inspired by His Spirit, yet, and ironically, the legalists cling to their rules & regulations is […]
Dictators, Cult leaders, and Abusers all use fear to control their victims. Fear of retribution, fear of being alone, or losing self without their presence, fear of the ‘outside’, fear that they are right and all else is wrong. Fear that without them, you are nothing. Fear is the most […]
