Out of Context: Without Holiness, No Man Shall See the Lord (Long Read)

Admittedly, this is going to be focused on my Pentecostal background and how Holiness in Hebrews 12:14 was twisted to equal a dress standard. Holiness is a word and concept found many times in Scripture, which signifies how important it is to God. Yet, so many have taken a word, plopped it into their own mold, and created a doctrine out of it.

So what is Holiness? We know God is Holy, and he wants us to be Holy – what does Holiness mean? Let’s explore the topic and see if we can find just a few of the answers together.

Video Version: Is Tithing required in the New Testament?

In our video series, we talk briefly about how the New Testament does not command us to give Tithes to the priesthood as was required in the Old Testament taxation on the people of Israel.

This video is NOT to prove we shouldn’t give because we should, but it is a warning that if you are being required to give 10%, 15% or more of your income to a preacher, then you are being coerced and lied to.

Dreams From God

Coming from a Pentecostal background, and using Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 (and Isaiah 28:11) endlessly as proof that Speaking in Tongues was required for salvation, I always wondered why we summarily ignored the rest of the verse. Men and women prophesying, old mean dreaming dreams, and young men seeing visions.

I wrote an article on Cherry Picking the Scripture which applies to that thought, but today we want to talk about dreams, and are they from God? Does God give us dreams for warnings, for hope, or is it the pizza, the sausage, and the beer? Wait, Beer?

Happy is he that condemneth not himself

One of the most persistent struggles an ex-legalist will have, especially in the early days of leaving the unhealthy church structure, is continuously feeling condemned. This is the way unhealthy church structures ensure conformity, by brainwashing congregants into believing that God will immediately damn them for stepping out of that man-made system.

Yet, Paul, used in the correct context, gave hope to you in saying “Hast thou faith? Have it to thyself. Happy is he that comdemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

Video Version: Performance Based Religion Fails People

If you have ever felt that your value to the church, and then intrinsically, to God was based on how well you performed in the church, or how you were rated by the Pastor, then this video and article is for you.

Churches and leaders who create systems of conformity, punishments for failure to do so, and then by proxy, modify your value to God based on your conformity to his rules is an abusive structure. Our hope is that this video will help you see your way through and out of that environment.

What is a Ministers Example?

As a follow-up to yesterdays post, Should Shepherds have Sheep Servants, I thought I would share a Scripture that makes the position of a minister crystal clear, and yet so obviously not followed. And this might be my shortest post, ever!

What is most astonishing is that the word minister itself describes the reality of what it means, so why is it so misused? We exposed ministers creating Cadet servants, but the very word minister or ministering is the polar opposite of having someone take care of things for you.

Should Shephards have Sheep Servants?

Too often the children of God, the Saints of His Church are referred to as Sheep (by Pastors) as if they [the Saints] were mindless, dumb, filthy and wayward creatures without the ability to care for themselves. Dumb, Directionless, and Defenseless.

And to give credit where credit is due, this article is inspired by fellow blogger Rebecca Davis @ HeresTheJoy.com. She wrote an article on the good ‘ole Sheep Sermon and it was articulate, intelligent, and absolutely correct. A commentator inspired me to comment in kind, and something that was said sparked this thought within me. Are the Sheep dumb, and only the Shepherd (Pastor) gets Wisdom from God?

The Life is in the Blood – so stay Healthy!

In the book of Leviticus, in giving the commandment to His people not to consume the blood of animals, He [the Lord] gives a revelation that would take many long years for mankind to really understand; “For the life of the flesh is in the blood:”.

The blood,  now spiritually applied to us in the death of Christ upon the cross on Calvary, is necessary for life. In the flesh, it carries oxygen throughout our bodies and ensures our muscular system can function. In our spirit, the blood [His blood] is the atonement for everlasting life. So if the blood is so important, why are we neglecting it?
